I’m not a photogenic person. As a matter of fact I’ve been told I’m better looking in person and I believe that’s true. But sometimes there just isn’t anyone around to model and since I’ve been wearing this cowl almost non-stop since I finished it, the most likely to model was me! Note to self: Do NOT model first thing in the morning before shower of coffee. That’s when I look the worst! Hah! And yes, it’s slightly out of focus – the only way to look at me on a day like this…

Needless to say I’m really loving the Good Luck Cowl and like I said before, I can’t believe that this is my first cowl. It’s so handy and efficient and toasty warm. It’s one of the best accessories I’ve ever made for myself. And why should yarn as lovely as this be relegated to the feet? It should be worn front and center for all the world to admire.

I’m not done with Jitterbug yet. Remember I still have a pair of socks coming in ginger cinnabar which are almost finished. But in a departure for me, I bought some Pagewood Farms hand dyed sock yarn in green of all colors! It’s actually called “Ireland” and they’re going to become March socks which I think is appropriate. Might even try Nutkin again.

Before I leave you I want to commemorate two great men born on this day 200 years ago. Charles Darwin and Abraham Linclon. Happy Birthday!

Who doesn’t need a little good luck these days? I finally frogged the twisted Nutkin sock and while browsing through flickr I saw this. Wow! I have been searching high and low for a cowl pattern to keep my neck warm during these chilly February days (and the pattern is free). Can you believe this is my first cowl?!?!

Well before you could say jitterbug, I had it cast on and practically flying off the needles. The pattern is a straightforward eight row repeat and it’s challenging enough without being overly pattern dependent. With just an occasional glance at the written instructions, I practically have it memorized. I’ve developed a new technique for tracking my row on lace with just a stitch marker (instead of a stickie note). On size 6 (US) 16 inch circular needles it’s a nice portable project too.

Coincidentally, I bumped into Nancy over on Ravelry as she was posting some of her gorgeous lace cowls (and then later in person in Portland at Close Knit). We both seemed to be on the same wavelength with these projects and Nancy has taken the lace cowl to new heights. Nancy is a master knitter who also had an interesting post about working with black (which I never do…as you can see I’m solidly stuck on orange these days). We are similar too in that we often don’t stop at just one and tend to make multiples if we find a pattern we love. Check them out the cowls at her blog – they are fabulous.
