A wonderful exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The best part about Chicago was, of course, the Art Institute. What a collection! I couldn’t believe the paintings that I was actually seeing up close and in person. Picasso, Cezanne, Renoir, Latrec, Hopper, Magritte…to name just a few.

And throughout the museum were school children, on field trips, being exposed to this magnificent artwork and most likely not realizing what they were looking at or the historical significance of it all. *sigh*

Nevertheless, it was fun to watch. They would stop at a painting, receive a short lecture and then pick up their stools and move to the next painting. It was never disruptive. In fact, I would often stop and listen in on the historical tidbits offered by the docents, most likely volunteers. I think I am turning into one of those gray haired art lovers myself. :-)

Well and then there was Matisse. Having seen the current exhibit, I now have a new appreciation for the artwork of this master. If you happen to be in Chicago, be sure and stop by and see the Matisse show. It’s magnificent.

Big thanks to Ava, Nell, Max and Coleen for making it all possible.

  1. I would have enjoyed going to an Art museum when I was in school instead of going to the symphony year after year.
