Sock knitting on the fourth of July
Posted on Jul 4, 2009 in sock knitting
Even though I made a pledge to myself to dedicate the month of July to finishing existing projects, I couldn’t very well ignore my one-pair-of-socks-per-month pledge now could I? So in the true spirit of knitting nerdiness, I give you the Serpentine socks, pair #7 for 2009.

The Addi Turbo size 1 needle I’m using feels ginormous in my hands. I have to keep checking the package because I can’t believe it’s really a size 1. I mean the needle looks and feels HUGE compared to the size 0 needle I’d been using for the Ribbed Ribbons socks but such a welcome relief.
I think this will be a quick knit – only 52 stitches! The pattern calls for sport weight but the jitterbug feels like a SW to me compared to the Malabrigo sock. I’m really starting to get the swing of toe-up socks and the Turkish cast on. So simple really.
Last night my sister, Liz, and I attended the Oakland Art Murmur which is very similar to the Last Thursdays I used to attend on Alberta Street in Portland. Part of the OAM took place on a little alley at the confluence of Telegraph and 23rd Streets.
There was music. Check out the little guy in the lower right hand corner.
And more music. Music every few feet it seemed. (She’s wearing pink fishnets like the ones I used to wear in the 60′s).
There was art.
There were statements.
There was my favorite – FREE HUGS! And I sorely needed one too. Thanks Bean!
This duo below calls themselves the “Ferocious Few”. Check out little man from above in the left hand corner checking them out. I think he was truly digging the live music scene.
Happy FOURTH of JULY whatever you decide to do.

What a joy to see that you are begining to take root in your new home. YES!!
