If you’re in the East Bay, check out the “K2tog” yarn shop on Solano Avenue in Albany

Last Saturday I hopped over to K2tog, a local yarn shop on Solano Avenue in Albany to spend some time with my new knitting friend Kimberly. There are actually TWO yarn shops on Solano Avenue and you might remember an earlier blog post about Stash which is located on “upper” Solano, in Berkeley. K2tog is situated on “lower” Solano which is Albany. It’s kind of funny as each section also has its own movie theater but there are a ton of shops running the length of the avenue from east to west so it really is worth checking out if you find yourself in the area.

Elizabeth, who attends the Wednesday night group at Artfibers, also works at K2tog and together we worked on our socks in the cozy chairs that are set up in the shop.

I made significant progress on my serpentine socks.

Kimberly’s a true pro and a lovely person and maintained her grace as the shop got really busy really fast. She was also wearing her newly finished “Cable and Lace Cami” from the Round Pond booklet by Classic Elite.
Now who says knitters don’t knit in the summer? In the Bay Area, knitting might just be a year round sport.

On a “yarn crawl” of East Bay yarn shops, a whole group of knitters from Palo Alto stopped by. I told Kimberly she was busier than a one armed paper hanger but she never lost her cool. A lovely Irishman even came by to buy sock yarn for his sweetie back in Ireland. How cool is that!?!

K2tog carries SQUARE needles which I have never heard of and I thought I had heard of everything. They are supposed to be ergonomically better for your hands and because I’m starting to get a lot of arthritis pain, especially in my right hand middle finger (ahem) I am seriously considering these.

I had such a good time, and lost all track of time, that I actually got a ticket – the first in ages. I can’t even remember the last time I got one. Ah well. I exceeded my 90 minute limit but it was well worth it! An extremely pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon. You should try it sometime.

ME TOO!!!!! RIGHT HAND MIDDLE FINGER AHEM AND EVERYTHING! I am terrified it’s arthritis and I will end my days fingerpainting with my toes because I cannot use my hands to knit anymore ARGHHHH!!! Thanks for the great post!

square needles…who’d have thunk it. it seems like it would feel as if one was knitting with pencils… but maybe that would work great and i’ve just never tried.
