For the dog days of summer, the traveling sock

Traveling socks

I decided to cast on a pair of socks that could go traveling with me – to SF or wherever it’s not convenient to lug a complicated pattern with. Like riding crowded public transportation or waiting in line for the museum to open. Or when I don’t want to concentrate so hard. Like during the hot summer and it’s been darned hot lately.

With that in mind, I am making these completely from memory. However, as I near the heel, I think I will have to consult a book or pattern if only for the numbers. What I’ve discovered about socks is that they all follow the same basic “recipe” with varying amounts of ingredients if you will. I’m almost at the point where I may be able to go sans pattern. Almost.

The yarn is “Yummy” by Fibra Natura (colorway #58) and although I initially thought these would make a good sock for one of the men in my life, last night, Anne thought the colors would also appeal to a female who liked more natural and subdued colors. It’s a nice thick wool so these will be perfect to wear in about six months.

You read in the previous post that Frank and I (and possibly Zach) are traveling to the newly remodeled Steinhart Aquarium and California Academy of the Sciences tomorrow and even though I now have my traveling socks ready to go, I volunteered to drive. Ah well. I’m excited and I’ll bring the sock anyway. Remember to always carry emergency knitting with you. ;-)
