Bartering for handknit socks
Posted on May 1, 2009 in knit, knitting, portland oregon, sock knitting
I am often asked what I do with all the socks I knit – about 35 pairs since 2003 but who’s counting? Well they make great gifts and I give them to my son, my daughter, my sister, my niece. my friends and I do keep a few for myself.
Lately they have come in handy for barter.

Last weekend Vanessa cut my hair and she was gracious enough to accept a pair of socks in lieu of cash. She tried on both the Child’s sock in shell pattern and the Quicker toe up socks and couldn’t quite decide between the two.
She looked at me and asked for both pair – pay a haircut forward? I was firm. She must choose.
She chose the Child’s sock knit with Jitterbug in the lovely shade of Ginger Cinnabar. Fine choice I say.
Here’s to bartering – a great way to go in today’s economy.

That’s a great idea, if I could find good sock yarn I like that doesn’t cost more than my haircuts!

Brilliant! Now I’m thinking of all the people I know that might exchange services for socks…I better dye up some sock yarn pronto.

Great idea! I’d have had a hard time making a choice also. Both pair of socks are gorgeous.
