Monkey see, monkey do…monkey socks that is

Caprice models the "no purl" monkey socks

I had finished my third pair of socks for 2009 last month but could never pin down Alice long enough to model. *sigh* Such is the life of the parent of a high school senior. One of my fellow knitters, Caprice, newly returned from India, graciously agreed to model. The socks are the no-purl variation of the famous Monkey socks by Cookie A. I must confess that they knit up a lot faster without the purls. I was even able to memorize the stitch pattern – a trend with me these days – and these socks became a portable project. I’m knitting without written patterns lately and it’s quite liberating.

"No purl" Monkey socks

Someone at knitting night mentioned the color of these socks and when worn they kind of remind me of an iridescent abalone shell with pearly striations of color. Or perhaps I’m just fantasizing. Blue is a color I rarely knit with but I love the way these turned out.

A peak into the AT vault shows that I was working on socks a year ago on this day. Why am I not surprised?

  1. Love the socks. No purls? Knitting without a pattern would be liberating!
