Dead simple lace socks and kinky circular needles. Anyone else have this problem?

Kinky cord on Addi Turbo circular needle

I’m not a tight knitter. In fact, I’m quite the opposite. I’m a relaxed knitter and I constantly find myself sizing down needles. Because of this I usually knit socks on size 0 or size 1 needles. Yet for some inexplicable reason, I bend the cords on the Addi Turbo circular needles with great regularity. These particular needles are 47 inches long which I bought to knit two socks simultaneously.

Is it just me or does anyone else have this problem?

Dead Simple Lace Socks (front)

Anyway, I jumped right in and cast on the first pattern, “Dead Simple Lace Socks”,  from the new book, Socks from the Toe Up, and I’m really pleased. I’m using the cheap Red Heart “Heart & Sole” which is striping up quite lovely, don’t you think?

Here’s the view from the back:

I managed to actually achieve gauge so I cast one 72 stitches for the large size instead of my usual 64 which always gives me a snugger fit.

Even so, the socks feel baggy as I try them on. Being able to try them on as I go is a definite advantage to knitting socks from the toe-up but I like my socks to be really tight since they always stretch out as I wear them.

No matter. I have two sisters and a mother who also have big feet like mine and I’m sure I’ll have no trouble finding someone to take these off my hands.

These socks would probably fit Max well although I’m not sure he would appreciate the lace pattern.

Finally, here’s your yarn porn for the day:

Malabrigo Sock #416 Indiecita

I bought this lovely purple last night to add to the stash. It’s Malabrigo Sock color #416 Indiecita.

Any suggestions?

  2. The kinked cables are why I thought maybe I was doing magic-loop incorrectly. It has happened to me every time so far (all non-sock projects though).

  3. I love the pattern you’re using with that yarn, it’s pretty how the stripes get jogged. I had the same problem with Addis. I started using Knit Picks needles and haven’t looked back. The cables are thinner and bendier, which works really well for me.
